Bryson City may be a small town, but we celebrate holidays in a big way! The streets are decorated with holiday lights the shops offer unique gifts, locally produced arts and crafts, as well as tasty foods and wines. There are lots of fun, family-friendly activities in Bryson City this holiday season. Here are a few suggestions:
Find the Perfect Tree. For a great family experience, visit the Ted Craig Tree Farm in Alarka. Your family will always treasure the memory of hiking up to find just the right tree, cutting it and bringing it home to be decorated. Or, if you prefer, you can simply select a precut tree instead.
Visit with the Appalachian Toymaker, located in the Storytelling Center across the parking lot from the train depot. Watch the toymaker create handcrafted wooden toys while you listen to holiday stories.
See a Play. Bryson City doesn’t have a movie theater, but we do have an excellent community theater that will be performing “THE CHRISTMAS SHOES”, based on the story behind the classic Christmas song, Christmas Shoes. this music-filled production takes the audience through the lives of two different families. First and second weekends in December. 7:30 pm on Fridays and Saturdays; 2:30 pm matinees on Sundays.
Climb Aboard the Polar Express!™ Sing some Christmas carols, and enjoy warm cocoa and a treat, while listening to this magical children’s story. Santa is waiting at the North Pole, where he’ll board the train, greeting each child, giving them their own silver sleigh bell. (1-1/4 hour round trip. Don’t forget to wear your pajamas! Have Breakfast with Santa. At the Rescue Squad on Bryson Walk on Saturday, December 6th from 8-10 a.m. Breakfast is $3 per person. Bring your own camera for photos with Santa.
