When planning an autumn trip to the Great Smoky Mountains, most people are concerned about when the peak of the color season will be. This is a difficult question to answer because the truth is, with the wide variety of trees, elevations and microclimates in the Smoky Mountains, our leaf season can last for weeks.
In general, we expect the peak of the season to be sometime in the second or third week of October in higher elevations and during the third or fourth week in mid- elevations. This can be affected by the timing of the first frost, however.
The good news is that right now, wherever you go in the Smokies, you’re sure to find amazing color and spectacular views. Right now, Bryson City is the perfect place to be! The weather is perfect, the views are incredible and the people are as warm and friendly as ever. This is the ideal time to get away and enjoy a few days at your favorite Watershed Cabin!
